Braves released LHP Jake Diekman.
Diekman was sent to minor league camp over the weekend, but the 38-year-old has no minor league options left and the ability to refuse an assignment. The 38-year-old posted a 4.91 ERA with an 8/4 K/BB ratio in 7 1/3 innings this spring. There is a good chance he latches on somewhere else.
Aram Leighton reports that Atlanta has signed Jake Diekman to minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Dieckman struggled in 2024 with a 5.63 ERA with a 1.47 WHIP and 40/24 K/BB over 32 innings across his 43 appearances with the Mets. The 38-year-old veteran will need to pitch well in the Grapefruit League to make the roster, and even still, Atlanta will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster to add him.
Mets released LHP Jake Diekman.
Diekman predictably passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will head to free agency in search of a new opportunity. The 37-year-old southpaw notched four saves this season for the Mets to go along with a lackluster 5.63 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 40/24 K/BB ratio across 32 innings (43 appearances).
Mets designated LHP Jake Diekman for assignment.
The 37-year-old southpaw was once considered a key cog in the Mets’ bullpen, but after registering a 5.63 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 40/24 K/BB ratio across 32 innings, the club had seen enough. There’s a chance that he could generate interest on waivers or be dealt to a team in need of bullpen help. Matt Gage was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move on Monday.
