Barrett (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday and outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Barrett made just two big-league appearances last season, allowing six runs over 3.2 innings. He went down with right elbow inflammation in late May and did not throw another pitch the rest of the year.
Barrett (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Barrett landed on the 10-day IL on May 26 with elbow inflammation and apparently hasn't made much progress towards his return. The 27-year-old will be unable to be activated until late July.
The Yankees placed Barrett on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right elbow inflammation.
Barrett becomes the 15th member of the Yankees' ever-growing IL list, though his loss isn't an overly significant one. The right-hander has been lit up in his two appearances out of the big-league bullpen this season and probably would have been sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the near future if the injury hadn't intervened.
Barrett was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
Barrett will take the bullpen spot which had belonged to Chance Adams, who was optioned in a corresponding move Sunday. Barrett appeared twice for the Yankees in early May, allowing six runs in 3.2 innings.
