Rays released RHP Jaime Schultz.
Schultz signed a minor league contract with the Rays back in January and has been cut loose after just a few weeks at Triple-A Durham in which he didn't make an appearance. The 31-year-old righty last appeared in the majors back in 2019. He hasn't pitched since the early stages of the 2021 season due to Tommy John surgery.
Rays siged RHP Jaime Schultz to a minor league contract.
The 31-year-old hurler returns to the organization that gave him his start as a 14th round selection back in 2013. He debuted with the Rays during the 2018 season -- posting a 5.64 ERA over 30 1/3 innings in 22 appearances. Schultz suffered an elbow injury early on during the 2021 season -- ultimately undergoing Tommy John surgery which wiped out his entire 2022 campaign as well. When healthy, he has always shown a propensity to miss bats, which makes him an interesting addition for the Rays.
Mariners released RHP Jaime Schultz.
Schultz sustained an injury during spring training and was limited to just five appearances (one start) at Triple-A Tacoma this season. The 30-year-old righty hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2019 campaign when he made four relief appearances with the Dodgers.
Jamie Schultz appeared to injure his hip or back during a Cactus League appearance against the Athletics on Saturday.
Shultz fell to his knees in front of the pitching mound after his final pitch of the outing. The 29-year-old headed straight back to the Mariners facility with the trainer and looked to be favoring his lower back or hip. More details are yet to be known. The high strikeout righty was hoping to compete for a role in the Seattle bullpen but struggled with command in the past. Schultz signed a minor league deal with the Mariners earlier this offseason.
