Royals released OF JaCoby Jones.
The 30-year-old outfielder was on a minor league contract at Triple-A Omaha where he was hitting .214/.270/.357 with four homers, 13 RBI and two stolen bases in 38 games. He's always been an extremely talented player that has oozed potential, so it's likely he'll be able to find another squad willing to give him a minor league deal.
Royals signed OF JaCoby Jones to a minor league contract.
Jones was cut loose by the Tigers in October after struggling to a .170/.210/.250 batting line with 42 strikeouts across his 105 major league plate appearances this year. He's displayed some potential in the past and makes for a low-risk gamble in Kansas City.
JaCoby Jones has elected free agency.
Jones has refused an outright minor-league assignment and will head to free agency just a few seasons after looking like a potential building block for the Tigers. The 29-year-old outfielder spent most of the year at Triple-A Toledo after hitting .170/.210/.250 with two homers and a pair of steals across 105 plate appearances at the big-league level in the first two months of the year. He'll be an interesting lottery ticket for another organization this offseason.
Tigers sent OF JaCoby Jones outright to Triple-A Toledo.
Jones was designated for assignment by Detroit on Sunday and passed through waivers unclaimed, probably because he's making $2.65 million in his second year of arbitration eligibility. The 29-year-old has shown promise at times, but he'd hit just .170/.210/.250 over 105 plate appearances this season in the bigs.
