Turner spent most of the 2018 season in the minors, posting a combined 3.98 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 104 innings with Triple-A Toledo and New Orleans. He struggled during his brief time in the majors, finishing with a 20.25 ERA and 3.75 WHIP across 6.2 innings with the Marlins and Tigers.

Turner only appeared in five games at the big-league level this season, recording a disastrous 20.25 ERA and 3.75 WHIP with a 3:6 K:BB in 6.2 innings. The right-hander was designated for assignment by the Tigers in August after being released by Miami earlier in the campaign. He will look to find a new home this winter.

Turner had been scheduled to fill the opening in the rotation created by Blaine Hardy's (elbow) placement on the 10-day disabled list, but the Tigers apparently had a late change of heart. Rather than bringing in Turner, who was lit up for seven runs (five earned) over one inning in his lone start with the big club Aug. 7, the Tigers will start Buck Farmer on Sunday in what amounts to a bullpen game.

Zach McAllister was designated for assignment to make room for Turner, who will return for his second start with the Tigers this season. Turner only went one inning in his first start earlier this month, allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits. A top-10 overall pick in 2009, Turner has managed just a 5.6 K-BB percentage in 369 career innings at the big-league level.
