2025 Player Outlook
While Happ hasn’t been able to replicate his .271 average from 2022, which was aided by a .336 BABIP, he’s posted at least 17 home runs and 145+ games played in four straight seasons. Happ has now been a member of the 20/10 club in each of the last two seasons, and a strong walk rate continues to make him an enticing target in leagues that value OBP (.career .343 OBP). A fly ball hitter can do damage at Wrigley Field, and the addition of Kyle Tucker should help out this offense immensely. Happ is locked in at the top of the Chicago lineup, and should once again play in 145+ games, health willing, while hitting 20+ home runs. If your league values OBP instead of batting average, Happ is someone worth targeting at his current price.
Player News
Ian Happ doubled twice and knocked in a run in the Cubs’ 4-0 shutout of the Phillies on Friday.
Happ has 16 hits during a nine-game hitting streak that’s raised his average from .208 to .274. Being the major league leader in plate appearances for a strong offensive team has definitely aided his fantasy value in the early going. He’s not off to an outstanding start with his .738 OPS, but he’s ninth in the majors with 21 runs scored and tied for 44th with 14 RBI.
Ian Happ went 4-for-5 and smacked a walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning on Tuesday night, propelling the Cubs to an 11-10 walk-off victory over the Dodgers.
Happ led off the home half of the first inning with a double and scored on Seiya Suzuki’s two-run double. He also hustled out an infield single in the eighth inning and rode home on Kyle Tucker’s two-run blast. He didn’t waste any time in the 10th either, smacking the first pitch that Noah Davis threw into right field for the game-winning knock. With his four-hit night, the 30-year-old outfielder is now slashing .271/.358/.374 with two homers, 13 RBI and one stolen base on the season.
Ian Happ went 3-for-5 and hit a grand slam against the Diamondbacks on Friday.
The slam was just Happ’s second homer in 22 games this season. He has six hits the last two days, raising his average from .209 to .253, and he’s now up to 17 runs scored in 22 games as the Cubs’ leadoff man.
Ian Happ went 2-for-4 and scored twice in the Cubs’ win over the Padres.
Happ scored on a bases-loaded walk to Nico Hoerner in the first inning, and crossed the plate again in the fifth on a single from Justin Turner. The pair of singles give the Cubs a 2-1 lead. Happ should remain at the top of a pretty good Chicago lineup, and that provides opportunity for multi-run outings if he can get on base enough.
