Mariners signed RHP Heath Hembree to a minor league contract.
The 35-year-old veteran tossed 1 1/3 innings for the Rays last season but he also spent time with the Tigers organization in their upper minors. He’ll likely begin the season at Triple-A Tacoma and serve as organizational depth for Seattle.

The 34-year-old right-hander signed a minor league deal with the Tigers at the start of May after he had been refused an outright assignment from the Rays. Hembree made just six appearances at Triple-A Toledo where he posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 6/2 K/BB ratio across six innings. He’ll likely latch on elsewhere on a minor league pact.

Hembree elected free agency last week after being designated for assignment by the Rays and going unclaimed on waivers. The 34-year-old right-hander, who has made 358 career relief appearances in the majors dating back to 2013, gives the Tigers some extra relief depth at Triple-A Toledo.
Tigers claimed RHP Braden Bristo off waivers from the Rays.
Bristo was designated for assignment last week by the Rays and represents a decent lottery ticket for the Tigers. The 28-year-old right-hander will head to Triple-A Toledo as extra organizational depth.
