Petit was released by the Phillies on Thursday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Petit's chances of breaking camp with the team were always long at best. He'll look to sign a minor-league deal elsewhere.
Petit agreed to a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Petit played in 26 games for the Twins this past year, hitting .246/.313/.279 with three RBI and three stolen bases in a reserve role. The 34-year-old will try to latch on with the Phillies in a similar capacity, though starting the year in Triple-A with Lehigh Valley seems more likely barring a phenomenal spring training. Either way, don't expect much value from a fantasy perspective.
Petit was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.
Petit slashed .246/.313/.279 over 61 at-bats with the Twins this season after signing a minor-league deal last December. The 33-year-old is able to elect free agency and will likely pursue another minor-league deal for next season.
Petit's contract was purchased by the Twins on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
The 33-year-old appeared in 12 games for the Twins earlier in the season, hitting .308, before eventually being designated for assignment. He's back on the roster now and will fill a backup infield role down the stretch. Logan Morrison (hip) was moved to the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move.
