Angels signed LHP Grant Dayton to a minor league contract.
Dayton exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league contract with the Marlins earlier this week and has already latched on with the Angels to bolster their organizational relief depth. The 34-year-old left-hander made 13 relief appearances last year with the Braves and compiled a solid 2.35 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 24/5 K/BB ratio across 15 1/3 innings (12 appearances) this season at Triple-A Jacksonville.

Dayton wasn't able to secure a spot on the Marlins' season-opening roster and will test the free agent waters after compiling a 3.77 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22/5 K/BB ratio across 14 1/3 innings (11 appearances) at Triple-A Jacksonville. There should be some interest in the 34-year-old lefty on the open market.

Dayton struggled with results and with shoulder problems last season with the Braves. The 34-year-old left-hander has mostly been good during his time in the majors but has yet to throw even 30 innings in any season.
Grant Dayton underwent surgery in September to clean up the AC joint in his left shoulder.
But the lefty reliever is expected to resume throwing within the next few weeks and is on track for a relatively normal offseason. Dayton was released by the Braves this past Saturday after making only 13 appearances during the 2021 season because of thigh and shoulder trouble.
