George Springer went 1-for-3 with a RBI double and a walk on Wednesday against the Astros.
As has been the case this entire season, Springer was the only Blue Jay who was able to hit it with any authority in this one. His run-scoring double was their only extra-base hit until Ernie Clement hit a double of his own in the ninth inning. Springer walked just before that Clement double, but was stranded at third base by Josh Hader. He’s seen meaningful gains in all of his underlying power metrics in what’s been a hot start. That is, besides his bat speed, which has trended down for the third consecutive season. It will be interesting to see how well he can sustain what’s been a tremendous bounceback season so far.
George Springer stole two bases in a loss Monday to the Astros.
Springer doubled his steal total to four with the pair of thefts. The 35-year-old has been outstanding to begin the year with .349/.425/.556 slash. It’s a nice blast to the past, but Springer’s shaky — at best — play the last two seasons should have fantasy managers skeptical of continued success.
George Springer (wrist) went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored in his return to the Blue Jays’ lineup on Friday night.
Springer led off the second inning with a single off of Bryan Woo and came around to score the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Alan Roden. That proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He also led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on an RBI knock by Alejandro Kirk. With his two-hit attack, the 35-year-old outfielder is now slashing a blistering .385/.441/.615 with two homers, 10 RBI and a pair of stolen bases on the season.
George Springer, who missed a third straight start with a sore wrist, came in late to play defense against the Braves on Wednesday.
He didn’t get an at-bat. The Blue Jays can no longer backdate an IL assignment for Springer after this, so they must be feeling pretty confident he’ll be ready to hit this weekend.
