Gabriel Arias went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the Guardians’ 5-0 shutout of the Brewers on Monday.
The double, a 364-foot shot to straight away center, should have been a routine out, but Jackson Chourio badly misplayed it. That was good news for the Guardians’ new starting shortstop. Arias, who was playing regularly in the infield anyway, now has a position all to himself with Brayan Rocchio getting sent down. He’s still probably a little short of offering value in 12-team mixed leagues.
Gabriel Arias is batting second on Saturday against the Phillies.
Arias has been red-hot at the plate recently, hitting .375 (9-for-24) over his last seven games. The 25-year-old lacks prototypical middle-of-the-order power, but the Guardians are going to give him a shot hitting ahead of José Ramírez, Carlos Santana and Kyle Manzardo, which is undoubtedly a positive for his fantasy value. He’s eligible at multiple positions — second base, shortstop and third base — and is available in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.
Gabriel Arias went 4-for-5 with a double in the Guardians’ 8-6 defeat of the Nationals on Wednesday.
Arias’s double was the hardest-hit ball of the game at 109.5 mph. He has a fine .287/.339/.452 line in 127 plate appearances, even though he’s sporting the worst contact rate (60%) and fourth-highest groundball rate (58%) among 161 qualified major league hitters. It’s certainly reason for some skepticism going forward.
Gabriel Arias went 3-for-4 with two RBI in a win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Arias started at shortstop, which is notable with Brayan Rocchio slashing .183/.258/.220 on the season. Arias has some swing-and-miss in his game, but he also makes a lot of hard contact. The Guardians are comfortable playing him all around the field which should lead to consistent playing time. He’s a solid player to have on your bench given his multi-position eligibility.
