Former major league reliever Felipe Vazquez was sentenced Tuesday to serve up to two to four years for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
He will also serve an additional two years of probation. Vazquez has already served 23 months in jail following his arrest in September of 2019. He was found guilty of 15 counts by a jury in Westmoreland County, PA in May, including statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with minor, corruption of minors, and indecent assault. He will be eligible for parole next month, but still faces criminal charges in Florida and Missouri for his relationship with the teenager.
Felipe Vazquez was found guilty of 15 counts on Thursday involving charges faced last summer.
Those counts include statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with minor, corruption of minors, and indecent assault. He was found not guilty of 10 charges of unlawful contact or communication with a minor. This stems from a child pornography case and an arrest in September of 2019 over a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl in 2017; a relationship he reportedly admitted to. Vazquez faces jail time and possible deportation.
Felipe Vazquez is facing an additional child pornography charge for sending pornographic pictures of himself to a minor last summer while in St. Louis.
It's believed that the victim is the same juvenile involved in the Pennsylvania and Florida cases. All told, Vazquez is facing over 20 charges involving sex crimes with minors. He is currently on administrative leave from the Pirates and faces possible deportation if found guilty of any/all of the charges.
Florida prosecutors filed 21 new charges against Vazquez on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Police seized an iPhone and a MacBook Pro they say belonged to Vazquez, and a search of those devices led to the additional charges; 10 counts of child pornography, 10 counts of unlawful contact with a minor and a single charge of corruption of minors. Vazquez was originally arrested in September for engaging in sexual activity with a minor and was subsequently placed on the restricted list by MLB. He is being held without bail.
