Carrera was one of two players released along with pitcher Josh Smoker. He had been playing for Triple-A Oklahoma City where he hit .172 in 29 at-bats.

Carrera struggled at the dish throughout spring training, and he'll finish with a .178 average along with four RBI and six runs scored over 22 spring games. He'll likely begin the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City after spending the entire 2018 campaign (43 games) at the Triple-A level.

Carrera's most recent season was his best, as he hit .282/.356/.408 in 325 plate appearances for the Blue Jays in 2017. He failed to reach the majors last season, though, and is now 31 years old with just one above-average batting line under his belt. He'll likely be forced to wait in the minors for an injury to open up a roster spot.

Carerra was hitting just .146/.228/.220 in 26 games for Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves organization before he was released. He hit a respectable .282/.356/.408 in 131 games for Toronto last season. Carerra will report to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he'll have a chance to show he still has some of that form in him.
