Player News
Carrera was released by the Dodgers on Tuesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Carrera was one of two players released along with pitcher Josh Smoker. He had been playing for Triple-A Oklahoma City where he hit .172 in 29 at-bats.
Carrera was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Carrera struggled at the dish throughout spring training, and he'll finish with a .178 average along with four RBI and six runs scored over 22 spring games. He'll likely begin the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City after spending the entire 2018 campaign (43 games) at the Triple-A level.
Carrera signed a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Dodgers on Friday, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Carrera's most recent season was his best, as he hit .282/.356/.408 in 325 plate appearances for the Blue Jays in 2017. He failed to reach the majors last season, though, and is now 31 years old with just one above-average batting line under his belt. He'll likely be forced to wait in the minors for an injury to open up a roster spot.
Carerra signed a minor league deal with the Mets, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports Friday.
Carerra was hitting just .146/.228/.220 in 26 games for Triple-A Gwinnett in the Braves organization before he was released. He hit a respectable .282/.356/.408 in 131 games for Toronto last season. Carerra will report to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he'll have a chance to show he still has some of that form in him.
