The Angels confirmed Monday that they’re hiring Eric Young Sr. as their third base coach and Ryan Goins as their infield coach.
Young is following Ron Washington from Atlanta to Anaheim, having served as the Braves’ first base coach since 2018. The 35-year-old Goins will be making his coaching debut after wrapping up a 14-year career that he finished in the Braves’ minor league system.
Young was released by the Mariners on Sunday, Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto reports.
Young signed a minor-league deal with Seattle in March but struggled at Triple-A Tacoma with a .236/.296/.362 slash line in 33 games. The veteran outfielder will look to latch on elsewhere but likely faces a tough path to the majors.
Young announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners.
Young spent spring training in camp with Baltimore but was released from his minor-league contract last week. The 33-year-old will serve as organizational depth for the Mariners at Triple-A Tacoma after posting a .233/.293/.361 slash line across 242 plate appearances with the Angels over the past two seasons.
Young was released by the Orioles on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Young had a strong spring, hitting .323/.462/.452, but the Orioles couldn't find room for the 33-year-old veteran on their rebuilding roster. He could still return to the organization in a minor-league capacity if he's unable to find a big-league opportunity elsewhere.
