Marlins released RHP Enrique Burgos.
Burgos was cut loosed by the Marlins after surrendering a whopping eight runs (six earned) on seven hits with a 4/3 K/BB ratio across 3 1/3 innings (three appearances) for Triple-A Jacksonville. The 32-year-old righty hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2016 campaign.
Marlins signed RHP Enrique Burgos to a minor league contract.
Burgos last appeared in the majors with the Diamondbacks during the 2016 campaign. The 32-year-old righty reliever has spent the last five seasons pitching in the independent Mexican League. He'll get a change in affiliated ball this season with the Marlins. It's absolutely an interesting gamble by Miami's front office.
Burgos (groin) was released by the Tigers on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
The veteran right-hander was looking to earn a spot in the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen before a groin injury derailed his spring training. Burgos will look to get healthy and find work elsewhere, though his recent struggles (5.27 ERA across 68.1 major-league innings over the past two seasons) will likely force him to settle for a minor-league deal.
The Tigers reassigned Burgos (groin) to their minor-league camp Tuesday.
Burgos had been attending camp as a non-roster invitee and was vying for a spot in the Detroit bullpen, but his hopes may have been spoiled after he suffered a right groin strain in his most recent Grapefruit League outing Monday against the Nationals. Per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, manager Ron Gardenhire relayed that "it's going to be a week-plus" with regards to Burgos' recovery timetable, so look for the right-hander to open the season on the disabled list at Triple-A Toledo.
