2025 Player Outlook

Edin Diaz is now two years removed from his last 30+ save season, but he should be able to enter the 2025 season the healthiest he has been in a long time. Pitching for a great Mets team he should easily get himself back to the 30+ save mark, and still has the potential to be the best closer in all of baseball if the skills can get back to what we saw in 2022, which is very possible.

Edwin Díaz allowed three hits, two earned runs, and two walks in 2/3 innings of work on Wednesday against the Marlins.

The Mets called on Diaz for some work after he hadn’t pitched since Sunday and he was horrific. He couldn’t come close to hitting his spots, fell behind nearly every hitter he faced, and eventually allowed a home run to Matt Mervis that sent the Marlins’ lead from two runs at the start of the inning to five runs when Díaz was mercifully pulled. It’s also worth noting that he threw a handful of fastballs around 92-94 mph. It was a cold, windy day in Queens, but Díaz’s velocity is something to keep an eye on.

Edwin Díaz threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Díaz needed just 10 pitches to complete the frame, with one strikeout and no baserunners at all. His velocity was down about one mph on a brisk April day, but everything looks crisp for Díaz, which is nice for fantasy managers considering the volatility at the position.

Edwin Díaz worked a clean inning with a strikeout to earn the save against the Astros on Friday.

Not that anyone needed reminding after last postseason, but Díaz remains one of the most feared closers in the league. His fastball was electric and he got Jeremy Peña to swing at a slider that was about two feet out of the strike zone. Most importantly, nearly every pitch he threw was in the strike zone. He’s a stalwart at the back of the Mets’ strong bullpen.
