Edward Olivares has signed with the Orix Buffaloes of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Olivares was officially released by the Mets earlier this week to pursue the overseas opportunity after signing a minor league contract last month with New York. The 28-year-old outfielder struggled in 55 games with the Pirates during the 2024 season, slashing just .224/.291/.333 with five homers, 23 RBI and a 37/16 K/BB ratio over 196 plate appearances. He has strong tools though and has shown plenty of potential at the plate throughout parts of five seasons in the big leagues, making him a terrific depth signing for the Mets.

Olivares went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week and will presumably stick around with the Pirates back at Triple-A as emergency depth. The 28-year-old outfielder batted just .224/.291/.333 with five homers, 23 RBI and one steal in 196 plate appearances over 55 games this season for Pittsburgh.
