2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Carlson had multiple trips to the injured list in 2023, limiting him to just 76 games for the Cardinals last year. He slashed just .219/.318/.333 with five home runs and three stolen bases. It was good to see his barrel rate and hard-hit rates rebound after a down 2022 season, and he remains better suited for leagues that value OBP over batting average. He's posted a 9.2 percent walk rate for his career, pushing his OBP to .322 for his big-league career.
2024 Outlook: Unfortunately for the switch-hitting Carlson, he doesn't figure to be an everyday player for the Cardinals in 2024. He has hit left-handed pitching well for his entire career, so he figures to play on the small side of a platoon in 2024. If he were to see regular at-bats in this lineup, he'd be a fine midseason pickup, especially if your league values OBP as a category.
