Player News
Dustin May picked up a loss while working 6 2/3 innings of two-run baseball against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
May gave up a long homer to Eugenio Suárez, and the other run was scored on a Ketel Marte fielder’s choice. Between that — and even after — May pitched well; and he struck out five and issued just a pair of walks. It’s nice to see some success for May considering how mediocre he was in his previous couple of outings. He’ll look to continue dropping his 4.08 ERA next week against the Angels.
Dustin May was hit hard in Sunday night’s loss to the Braves, giving up four runs on five hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.
The right-hander punched out six opposing hitters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball, with Austin Riley crushing a pair of two-run homers against him. Aside from that, he pitched very well, but that was more than enough to saddle him with a loss on Sunday. May generated eight swings and misses on 97 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll attempt to get back in the win column as he totes a 4.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and a 28/14 K/BB ratio (33 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Dustin May didn’t factor into the decision after allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings against the Marlins on Monday.
May blanked the Marlins over five innings, but then was charged for three runs in the sixth; two of those coming on a grand slam after he had left the contest. It’s a shaky result, but a better outing than his 10-hit disaster against the Cubs last Tuesday. Still, May’s ERA has jumped from 1.06 to 3.95 over his last two chances, and he’ll try and get back on track in a rematch with the Marlins in Miami next week.
Dustin May was torched by the Cubs for seven runs on 10 hits over five innings in a no-decision on Tuesday evening at Wrigley Field.
The 27-year-old right-hander also issued three walks on the night while punching out five. The Cubs got to him early and often in this one, using six hits to push five runs across in the opening inning. May settled in nicely after that until surrendering a two-run homer to Pete Crow-Armstrong in the fifth inning. He got nine whiffs on 95 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of just 22 percent. After this rough outing May has seen his ERA balloon from 1.06 to 3.68. He’ll try to put this one behind him and get back on track when he takes on the Marlins on Monday evening in Los Angeles.
