It sounded like this would happen about a week ago, but everyone is still taking things slowly here. The Yankees have thus far gotten a .263/.333/.342 line from their third basemen. LeMahieu has hit .252/.336/.362 over the last four seasons.

LeMahieu opened the season on the injured list with a strained left calf. He had just two at-bats this spring before getting hurt, and the Yankees have thus far gotten solid production from their third basemen, so the team will definitely want him to spend several days in the minors before he’s activated.

LeMahieu resumed hitting earlier this month, but isn’t going to be ready for Opening Day. The 36-year-old veteran will be an option for New York’s infield mix at some point before the end of April once he completes a minor league rehab assignment.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that LeMahieu is “moving the needle” in his recovery. Not sure exactly what that means, but sounds good. LeMahieu is very likely going to be on the injured list to open 2025, but he has a chance to return in the middle of April.
