Marrero was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse in mid-September after he had been designated /for assignment. The 32-year-old infielder is a career .191/.246/.279 hitter in 373 career plate appearances at the big league level. He'll have to settle for a minor league deal this winter if he plans on continuing his playing career.

Marrero again cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization.

It's the second time in less than a month that he's been DFA'd. Marrero figures to clear waivers again and, assuming that happens, can elect free agency if he wants.

Adonis Medina is the other September 1 callup for New York. Marrero, a .192/.247/.280 career hitter in the bigs, will merely add bench depth for the stretch run.
