David Hernandez has been informed that he will not be on the Indians' Opening Day roster.
Beau Taylor and Daniel Johnson got the same news Monday. Hernandez signed a minor league contract with Cleveland earlier this month after struggling to a 8.02 ERA in 42 2/3 innings last year with the Reds.
Indians signed RHP David Hernandez to a minor league contract.
Hernandez will be part of the Indians' 60-man player pool and will report to their summer camp in Cleveland. The veteran reliever posted an 8.02 ERA and 53/20 K/BB ratio in 42 2/3 innings for the Reds' last season.
Nationals released RHP David Hernandez.
Hernandez was signed to a minor league contract in January. The right-hander was awful with the Reds in 2020 with an 8.02 ERA and 53/20 K/BB ratio in 42 2/3 innings. He also had a ghastly 19.29 ERA in spring training, and had no chance of making the Nationals' 26-man roster. He could be of interest on the market, but he's just organizational depth at this point.
Hernandez will attend spring training with the Nationals as a non-roster invitee.
Hernandez spent a majority of the 2019 season with the Reds, recording a 8.02 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 53:20 K:BB across 42.2 innings. The veteran reliever owned an impressive 0.98 WHIP in 2018 with Cincinnati and will have the opportunity to make a positive first impressive on the Nationals' big-league coaching staff during spring training.
