DeJesus officially announced his retirement from professional baseball Wednesday on his personal Twitter account.
The 37-year-old DeJesus, who sat out the 2016 season after failing to attract many intriguing offers in free agency, will finish his career with a respectable .275/.349/.412 slash line across parts of 13 seasons. He'll now transition to a broadcasting career, covering the Cubs for CSN Chicago.
Angels declined $5-million option on OF David DeJesus.
In 56 games with the Angels, DeJesus hit .125 at the plate, making this decision to decline his option easier. DeJesus becomes a free agent but you gotta wonder what's the market for a 35 year old veteran coming off a second half where he was literally dreadful.
Angels have acquired OF David DeJesus from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Eduar Lopez.
The Angels are acquiring all kinds of outfielders to fill their left field void. This almost certainly means the end of Matt Joyce in LA. DeJesus will be behind Shane Victorino and David Murphy and will be the team's fifth outfielder. He has no fantasy appeal.
David DeJesus was 2-for-3 with two runs, a triple and an RBI on Sunday.
David DeJesus is not a mixed league outfielder, but he has days like this with steady production against right handed pitching. DeJesus was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI to lead the Rays to a win over the Astros and the home sweep. But in 74 games this year, DeJesus has 23 runs, five home runs, 26 RBI and three stolen bases. While his value is tied to deeper formats or American Only leagues, DeJesus does enough without hurting teams in fantasy.
