Darren O'Day has announced his retirement from professional baseball.
O'Day made the announcement on his personal Twitter account. The 40-year-old righty hangs up his cleats after a 15-year career that included stints with the Angels, Mets, Rangers, Orioles, Braves and Yankees. He finishes with a stellar 2.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 637/172 K/BB ratio across 609 innings (644 appearances) dating back to 2008. He made 28 relief appearances last season for Atlanta.
Braves transferred RHP Darren O'Day from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
O'Day recently had to be pulled off a minor league rehab assignment after spraining his right big toe. He initially landed on the IL on July 12 due to a strained left calf. It's unclear if we'll see him again this year.
