2025 Player Outlook
After his stolen bases dipped to the single digits in his first year in the Windy City, Swanson posted a career high with 19 stolen bases last season! He also hit 16 home runs, scored 82 runs, and slashed .242/.312/.390. Swanson remains an excellent defender, but one interesting thing from last year is that his 49.9 percent ground ball rate last season was the highest of his career. The hope for Swanson heading into 2025 is that he’s more of the guy he was in the second half (.281 AVG, 124 wRC+) than the first half (.212, 79 wRC+). All things considered, Swanson is a pretty safe projection for 17-22 home runs, 14-19 stolen bases, and a .240-.250 average.
Player News
Dansby Swanson went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk as the Cubs edged the Mets 6-5 on Saturday.
Swanson singled in a run in the first and delivered a solo shot off Tyler Megill in the fourth. It was his eighth homer of the year, putting him on pace to smash his 2024 total of 16 homers in 149 games. His .240 average and 48/13 K/BB ratio are mediocre, but as long as the power numbers hold up, he’s at least a fringy option in mixed leagues.
Dansby Swanson went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a win over the Pirates on Wednesday.
Dansby Swanson went 3-for-4 with a run scored on Wednesday against the Pirates.
Swanson has really struggled out of the gate this season, so it was nice to see him finally hit the ball well. This was his first three-hit game on the campaign and it raised his batting average by nearly 20 points to finally climb back above the Mendoza Line. He still has plenty of work to do though as one of the more disappointing players in the league to this point.
Dansby Swanson went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday’s loss to the Padres.
Since hitting his fourth homer of the year on Apr. 8, Swanson is 2-for-30 with a 13/0 K/BB, dropping his OPS from .809 to .571. He’s been batting fifth for the Cubs, but they might want to drop him a little lower until this works itself out.
