Red Sox released INF/OF Danny Santana.
Santana was signed to a minor league contract last month when the Red Sox were dealing with multiple injuries to their outfield regulars and didn't end up making it back to Boston. The 31-year-old journeyman got into 38 games last year in the majors.

Santana was popped for performance-enhancing drugs just before the beginning of the 2022 regular season, but his 80-game PED suspension has now been served. The versatile 31-year-old enjoyed a breakout with the Rangers back in 2019 before compiling a rough .170/.247/.322 batting line in 190 plate appearances between Texas and Boston in 2020-2021. He'll probably be stationed at Triple-A Worcester.
Danny Santana has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Santana tested positive for the performance-enhancer Boldenone. The veteran utility player is currently a free agent.

Santana missed most of the final month of the 2021 regular season, but he's healthy now and will give the Sox a versatile bench option for their best-of-five ALDS matchup against the Rays. Jose Iglesias was outrighted off the 40-man roster on Wednesday.
