Palka signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox back in late February and never wound up making it to Fenway Park. The 31-year-old journeyman slugger clubbed 12 homers in 79 games this season for Triple-A Worcester. He hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2019 campaign.

Palka, 31, hasn't appeared in the majors since 2019 as a member of the White Sox. He hit .263/.344/.506 with 26 homers in 109 games with the Mets' Triple-A affiliate last season and will give Boston some solid upper-level depth.

Palka possesses gargantuan over-the-fence pop, but hasn't been able to make contact consistently enough to even carve out a part-time role in the majors in recent years. The 30-year-old slugger, who launched 27 round-trippers with the White Sox back in 2018, spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Rochester with the Nationals where he slashed a robust .256/.364/.472 and also clobbered 18 homers in 420 plate appearances. He's certainly an intriguing low-risk lottery ticket for the Mets.
