Jason Mackey of PG Sports reports that the Pirates have hired Daniel Vogelbach as a special assistant to the hitting department.
It appears that Vogelbach’s playing career is over. The 32-year-old had just a .578 OPS before being released by the Jays in June, but had stretches of being a solid option during his time in the majors.
Blue Jays released 1B Daniel Vogelbach.
Vogelbach went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 31-year-old slugger struggled to a .578 OPS with one homer in 79 plate appearances over 31 games this season in his Blue Jays debut. He should be able to latch on somewhere as a bench option, but his days as a relevant fantasy contributor in deeper mixed leagues are probably finished.
Blue Jays designated 1B Daniel Vogelbach for assignment.
Vogelbach had struggled mightily with Toronto this year. He hit .186 with one home run in 70 at-bats. The club now has seven days to trade him or place him on waivers.
Daniel Vogelbach went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, RBI, and three runs scored.
The struggling Vogelbach paced the also struggling Jays offense on Sunday with three hits and was just a triple shy of a cycle. He keeps getting opportunities to start despite his .594 OPS.
