Altavilla was in White Sox camp this spring as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor-league deal over the offseason. The 32-year-old right-hander didn’t make the team and was cut despite a 2.79 ERA in Spring Training. Now Altavilla is back as organizational relief depth in the minors.

The 32-year-old was a non-roster invitee to spring training but was good in his outings, registering a 2.79 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in 9 2/3 innings while striking out 11. That performance could help him latch on elsewhere.

The 32-year-old has pitched just five total MLB innings since 2020 and had a 14.73 ERA in 3 2/3 innings for the Royals in 2024. However, he owns a career 4.36 ERA in 119 2/3 MLB innings, so there have been better days.

Altavilla can become a free agent if he’d like. He made five appearances for the Royals this season, giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
