Angels released OF Dalton Pompey.
Pompey inked a minor-league deal with the Angels back in May. The 28-year-old former top prospect hasn't appeared in the majors since 2018.
Pompey signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday and was assigned to major-league camp, Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reports.
Pompey appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jays over the last two seasons, but he was sidelined for a significant portion of 2019 with a concussion. The 27-year-old will look to take advantage of a fresh start in the desert.
Pompey cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday.
Despite his former prospect hype, it's not particularly surprising that Pompey went unclaimed on waivers, as he's now 26 years old and has yet to establish himself at the highest level. He'll remain in the Blue Jays' organization but doesn't appear to be particularly close to his next big-league opportunity.
Pompey (concussion) was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Once a promising prospect, Pompey's career has been derailed by multiple concussions. The 26-year-old has gotten into 64 big-league games over parts of four seasons, hitting .221/.289/.372. The Blue Jays decided they had no room for him on their 40-man roster after his latest rehab stint, but another team could still take a chance on his tools and claim him off waivers.
