Bassitt allowed three runs over the first two innings on a pair of homers, but settled down over his next four frames. He came out to work the seventh, but ended up being charged for two more runs after leaving the contest. The 36-year-old veteran has forged a 3.35 ERA and outstanding 49/8 K/BB ratio over the first quarter of the season, but this wasn’t him at his best. He’ll get the Rays next week if the rotation order stays the same for Toronto.

Chris Bassitt wasn’t at his best in Sunday’s loss to the Yankees, giving up four runs on six hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Bassitt stuck out five batters on the evening while issuing one base on balls. He had been locked in a tight 1-1 pitcher’s duel with Clarke Schmidt until the sixth inning where the wheels fell off for him. There, he surrendered a leadoff solo homer to Aaron Judge and allowed a two-out RBI double to Jasson Dominguez before turning the ball over to the bullpen who then allowed Dominguez to score as well. Bassitt got six whiffs on 92 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of just 23 percent. After losing two straight starts, Bassitt still sports a terrific 2.62 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 39/7 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings through his first six outings. He’ll look to right the ship when he takes on the Guardians at home on Saturday.
