Dodgers hired former MLB starting pitcher Chris Archer as a special assistant.
Archer finished his career with a 63-89 record and a 3.93 ERA. He was named an All-Star twice and had his best season in 2015, finishing with a 3.23 ERA and 252 strikeouts for the Rays. His move to the Dodgers makes sense since Archer for the Rays during Andrew Friedman’s tenure there, and was teammates with current Dodgers General Manager Brandon Gomes.
Chris Archer, who didn’t pitch in 2023, said he has taken a job as a special assistant in baseball operations with the Dodgers.
Consider that a retirement announcement. Archer last pitched with the Twins in 2022, going 2-8 with a 4.56 ERA in 25 starts. The two-time All-Star had his best season in 2015, finishing with a 3.23 ERA and 252 strikeouts for the Rays. It was one of three straight years in which he struck out 230 batters. He finishes his career 63-89 with a 3.93 ERA.
Twins declined RHP Chris Archer's $10 million club option for the 2023 season, making him a free agent.
The Twins took a chance on Archer last year as a low-cost reclamation project, but the decision didn't pan out. The 34-year-old veteran right-hander finished with an underwhelming 4.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 84/48 K/BB ratio across 102 2/3 innings (25 starts). He's unlikely to make an impact for fantasy managers at this advanced stage of his career.
Twins placed RHP Chris Archer on the 15-day injured list with right pectoral tightness.
Archer will hit the injured list after he was pulled from Saturday's contest with right pectoral tightness. The 33-year-old right-hander is confident he'll only miss the minimum time and return before the end of the season.
