Tilson signed a minor league contract with the Phillies last June -- following brief stints in the Mexican League and Atlantic League -- and went on to slash .296/.361/.404 with one home run and 13 stolen bases in 59 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 29-year-old former second-round pick of the Cardinals last appeared in a major league game in 2019 with the White Sox.

Tilson was released by the Pirates earlier this month and managed to latch on with the cross-state Phillies this week. The 28-year-old righty will serve as organizational outfield depth. He hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2019 with the White Sox.

Tilson was signed as a non-roster invite by the Pirates in January, and is part of several cuts handed out by the Pirates. He's hit .246/.310/.290 in three partial seasons in the majors, and he'll likely hook on with someone as organizational depth before the 2020 season ends, assuming it begins.

Tilson has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Pirates that includes an invitation to spring training, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Once an interesting prospect in the Cardinals' system, Tilson is now with his third organization. He hit .246/.310/.290 with one home run and six steals in 280 plate appearances across three seasons in the majors with the White Sox. His sprint speed was in the 94th percentile last year, so he could provide some steals if he were to win a job in spring training. The 27-year-old will be competing with the likes of Jason Martin for playing time.
