Cubs signed C Carlos Pérez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 34-year-old backstop will add quality veteran depth in spring camp for the Cubs. Pérez didn’t see any big league action during the 2024 season, but he was terrific for the Athletics at Triple-A Las Vegas where he slashed .260/.344/.544 with 27 homers and 77 RBI in 468 plate appearances. It’s unlikely that he does enough to earn a reserve role on the Opening Day roster, but his consistent power in the minor leagues would at least make him an intriguing deep league option if he did.
Carlos Pérez went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in both A's runs Saturday against the Phillies.
Pérez plated runs in the fifth and 11th innings. He's been a solid player for the A's in his first major league action since 2018, hitting .248/.310/.396 in 113 plate appearances. He's probably a better player than Shea Langeliers right now, though it still wouldn't make much sense to increase his role.
Rockies reassigned Cs Carlos Pérez and Brian Serven to minor league camp.
Pérez was in Rockies' camp as a non-roster invitee and wasn't able to beat out Dom Nuñez for a spot on the Opening Day roster. He'll head to Triple-A Albuquerque as extra catching depth. The 31-year-old backstop last appeared in the majors back in 2018 with the Braves and Rangers.
Rockies signed C Carlos Perez to a minor league contract.
Perez hasn't made it back to the majors since appearing in 28 games combined for the Braves and Rangers back in 2018. The 31-year-old backstop hit .269/.337/.572 with 31 round-trippers across 418 plate appearances in the hitter-friendly environment of Triple-A Las Vegas in the Athletics' minor-league system last year. He'll augment the Rockies catching depth entering the 2022 campaign.
