Gomez intends to announce retirement at the end of the Dominican League season, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Gomez played for six major-league teams during his time in the big leagues, though he intends to retire as a Brewer, per Nightengale. The 34-year-old will end his career with a .252 batting average along with 145 home runs, 546 RBI and 268 stolen bases over 1,461 games.
Gomez cleared waivers Wednesday and elected to become a free agent.

Gomez reverted to a bench role over the past week with his last start coming June 23. The 33-year-old finished June with a .170/.231/.209 slash line in 19 games and saw his workload dissipate with Michael Conforto taking over the everyday role in center field. Noah Syndergaard (hamstring) was activated off the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Gomez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
Gomez sits for the third time in the last four games. Michael Conforto starts in center field, with Dominic Smith and Jeff McNeil in the corners.
