Gomez intends to announce retirement at the end of the Dominican League season, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Gomez cleared waivers Wednesday and elected to become a free agent.

Gomez was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday.

Gomez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.
