Brandon Nimmo went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks, and three runs scored in a 9-3 win over the Cardinals on Friday.
The Cardinals had no answers for Nimmo in this one, as he reached base safely in all five of his plate appearances and sprayed the ball all over the park. His fifth inning single was right in the middle of the Mets’ rally that chased Sonny Gray from this game and his seventh inning homer was merely icing on the cake. It had been a trying season for Nimmo, until this week. It started with a four hit, two home run, nine RBI game and then this three hit, two walk performance. In just four games, he’s gone from a .575 OPS to a .720 OPS.
Brandon Nimmo, who missed two starts due to an illness, is playing left field Thursday against the D-backs.
Nimmo did come off the bench and pinch-hit last night. Starling Marte is on the bench today after helping fill in for Nimmo the last two games.
Brandon Nimmo (illness) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday’s showdown against the Diamondbacks.
Nimmo will miss his second consecutive contest as he continues to deal with flu-like symptoms. It’s possible he’ll be available off the bench, if needed, for a late-game situation. It’ll be veteran Jeff McNeil in left field while the Mets give him some extra time to rest and recover. The incredible part here is that he went 4-for-6 with two homers and nine RBI during Monday’s series opener while battling illness.
Brandon Nimmo is absent from Tuesday’s lineup due to illness.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Nimmo is getting an IV and might be available off the bench for Tuesday’s showdown at Citi Field. The 32-year-old authored the performance of a lifetime during Monday’s blowout victory, launching two homers and collecting nine RBI as part of a four-hit effort. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be José Azócar in left field on Tuesday night.
