League was released by the Royals on Sunday, Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star reports.
After being informed he wouldn't win a bullpen job with the big club, it appears League was unwilling to report to the Royals' minor-league camp, so he'll become a free agent. The 34-year-old was out of baseball last season and could be nearing the end of the line.
Brandon League signed a minor league deal with the Royals.
League is yet another relief option the Royals have signed to a minor league and an invite to spring training. He missed the entire 2016 season while rehabbing a shoulder and pitched just 10 games between High-A and Triple-A in the Dodgers system in 2015. He has the ability to be a solid relief option, however he has a long road to hoe to make the team out of camp, especially now at 33 years old.
Update: Brandon League and the Diamondbacks did *not* reach an agreement on a minor league deal, according to latest from the Diamondbacks baseball ops department.
In any event, League will likely not factor into the fantasy world much this season, as he won't close for whomever he eventually signs with.
Diamondbacks sign RH reliever Brandon League to minor league deal following his release from Dodgers last week.
League figures to factor into the fantasy picture very little for the rest of the season, as the D-Backs are pretty set at the closer position.
