Brandon Dixon announced his retirement Thursday from professional baseball.
Dixon made the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, wrapping up a five-year big-league career that included stint with the Reds, Tigers and Padres. The 32-year-old also spent one season overseas in Japan with the Rakuten Golden Eagles. He got into 33 games this past season for San Diego.

Perez was designated for assignment during the flurry of acquisitions the Padres made at the trade deadline. The 31-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed and will stick around at the Triple-A level. He hit .203/.244/.329 with two homers across 86 plate appearances with the Padres this season.

The Padres needed to free up some room on the 40-man roster after Tuesday’s deadline moves and Dixon was apparently considered the odd-man out. The 31-year-old has hit just .203/.244/.329 with two homers and nine RBI in 86 plate appearances with the Padres this season.

The Padres have begun turning over their roster ahead of the trade deadline in a couple weeks with Dixon heading to the minors to open up an active roster spot.
