The Brewers released Logan on Monday.
After booting Logan off the 40-man roster June 19, the Brewers were unable to find a trade partner for the lefty, nor was another team willing to pick up the remainder of his one-year, $2.5 million contract via a waiver claim. The Brewers apparently weren't able to convince Logan to accept a minor-league assignment, so the 34-year-old will look to find work elsewhere. Despite his unsightly 5.91 ERA and 2.34 WHIP in 10.2 innings with Milwaukee this season, Logan's long track record of reliability as a LOOGY could be enough to gin up interest from clubs now that he's officially a free agent.
Logan was designated for assignment Tuesday.
The veteran lefty didn't have much success for the Brewers this season, stumbling to a 5.91 ERA in 10.2 innings. Most of his issues were control-related, as he walked 17.2 percent of the batters he faced. He was removed from the roster to make room for Tuesday's starter, Freddy Peralta.
Logan allowed an earned run in 0.2 innings Sunday but also picked up the win in the Brewers' victory over the Mets.
Logan's win was his first since joining the Brewers during the offseason. Typically stingy against left-handed hitters, he has allowed lefties to post a 1.244 OPS over 17 plate appearances against him this year. The good news is righty hitters have posted just a .651 OPS over 15 PA. He is working in middle relief and figures to get opportunities to turn around his stats against lefties -- they did combine for just a .191 batting average (43-for-225) against him over the last three years, after all.
Logan (triceps) was activated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game in Colorado.
Logan appeared in six rehab outings over the past couple weeks and looks to make his 2018 debut in the coming days after suffering a slight triceps strain near the end of spring training. Over 38 appearances with the Indians last season, Logan posted a 4.71 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with a 28:9 K:BB over 21 innings. Expect him to be utilized against left-handers as a late-inning situational reliever.
