White Sox designated INF Bobby Dalbec for assignment.
Dalbec has been jettisoned from Chicago’s active roster amid a flurry of moves prior to Sunday’s game against the Astros. The 29-year-old all-or-nothing free-swinger went 4-for-18 with one RBI in seven games with the White Sox.
White Sox recalled INF Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Charlotte.
With Chase Meidroth (thumb) being placed on the IL, Dalbec will have two weeks to try and earn more playing time with the White Sox. The 29-year-old is hitting .326/.354/.696 in 12 games at Triple-A with four home runs and 13 RBI, but he also has a 33 percent strikeout rate. Considering he has a 37 percent career MLB strikeout rate, we would not assume he’s any different of a hitter than he has been in his previous failed call ups.
White Sox reassigned INFS Bobby Dalbec, Tristan Gray and Chase Meidroth and RHPs James Karinchak and Steven Wilson to minor league camp.
A few “high profile” names here. Dalbec, Wilson and Karinchak have all had various levels of success in the majors, but none were good enough to make the White Sox out of camp. No comment. Several of these players likely have opt-outs, so none are guaranteed to report to Triple-A Charlotte when the season begins.
White Sox signed INF Bobby Dalbec to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Chris Cotillo of Mass Live reports that Dalbec gets $1.25M if he’s in the majors with the White Sox with another $500K possible in incentives and the ability to opt out in June and July. Dalbec has spent his entire career with the Red Sox since being drafted in the fourth round out of Arizona in 2016, and while there were some flashes that suggest he could be a regular, it hasn’t come consistently. He’ll battle for a bench spot with the White Sox in 2025.
