Blake Treinen worked a scoreless ninth despite giving up a hit and a walk against the Nationals on Wednesday.
Blake Treinen recorded his first save of the season on Thursday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a one-run lead against the Tigers.
Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts turned to Tanner Scott in the eighth inning with a couple of tough left-handed hitters coming up, which left Treinen to clean things up in the ninth. He made things interesting by allowing a leadoff single to Gleyber Torres and a one-out walk to Spencer Torkelson, but he rebounded to strike out Trey Sweeney and then got Colt Keith to pop out to end it. He’s now the third different Dodgers’ pitcher to record a save through the first three games of the season.
Blake Treinen gave up three hits and two runs in his inning of work against the Rangers on Thursday.
Treinen gave up the three hardest-hit balls in the game, all in the 109-110 mph range, to three youngsters most fans have probably never heard of (though everyone will be hearing plenty about Sebastian Walcott in the future). The 36-year-old’s velocity is down about one mph from last year, which is probably to be expected in spring training. His plight is much less relevant for fantasy purposes now that Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates have been added to the Dodger pen.
Dodgers re-signed RHP Blake Treinen to a two-year, $22 million contract.
This was reported Sunday and is made official Tuesday morning. Treinen was outstanding in 2024, and was the Dodgers’ relief ace in the postseason after forging a 1.93 ERA and 56/11 K/BB over 46 2/3 innings. The 36-year-old should get a chance to pitch in high-leverage situations again in 2025, and depending on what else the Dodgers due in the offseason, he could be in line for saves this spring.
