Ben Rowen has retired from his baseball playing career and taken a job with the Angels as an advance scout.
While he is technically part of the Angels' front office, it's mostly a coaching role for Rowen, who will work with coaches and pitchers to devise game plans. The 33-year-old side-winding righty reliever registered a 6.26 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (20 appearances) at the major-league level with the Rangers, Brewers and Angels since 2014.
Ben Rowen has elected free agency.
Rowen yielded eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits with an 8/2 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings over eight relief appearances with the Angels this season. The 32-year-old righty side-winder should be able to find a new opportunity as minor-league organizational relief depth this offseason.
Angels outrighted RHP Ben Rowen to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Rowen was designated for assignment after allowing seven earned runs in just 11 1/3 innings. He'll be organizational depth, but he would need to be added to the 40-man roster in order to pitch again for Los Angeles.
Angels designated RHP Ben Rowen for assignment.
Rowen tossed 11 1/3 innings for the Angels this season, allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. The submariner could find his way onto another team, but it's unlikely there will be much interest.
