Ben Lively surrendered four runs over five innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.
Lively was burned by the long ball in this one as all of the damage against him came courtesy of a three-run blast by Wilyer Abreau in the opening frame and a solo shot from Rafael Devers in the third. He struck out four and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.40 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 23/11 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings (six starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Twins.
Friday’s scheduled contest between the Red Sox and Guardians in Cleveland has been postponed due to inclement weather.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday. Expect Friday’s scheduled starters — Tanner Houck and Ben Lively — to each pitch at some point on Saturday. The first game will start at 1:10 PM and the second will begin at 6:10 PM.
Ben Lively pitched four-hit ball for 5 1/3 innings and combined with four Guardians relievers on a 3-0 shutout of the Pirates on Saturday.
Cade Smith, Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis and Emmanuel Clase finished the six-hitter. Lively struck out three and walked one in his first win of the year. He’ll take a 3.86 ERA into his next start at home against the Red Sox.
Ben Lively allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.
Lively was able to pitch out of trouble in the first few innings, but he gave up a homer to Sal Perez in the fourth and a two-run double to Maikel Garcia in the fifth that led to Kansas City’s runs. Lively did post a solid 25 percent whiff rate and 29 percent CSW thanks, mostly, to his sinker, but he remains on the deep-league streaming radar next week against the Pirates.
