Austin Wynns went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in the Reds’ 5-2 defeat of the Marlins on Wednesday.
Wynns was playing for the first time since going 6-for-7 with a homer and six RBI in the 24-2 game Sunday against the Orioles. He had a .616 OPS in 245 career games prior to Sunday, but 11 at-bats later, he’s up to .642. In spite of the good big week, the 34-year-old Wynns still figures to find himself off the Cincinnati roster once Tyler Stephenson returns. Perhaps there’s a chance the Reds could keep three catchers if they want to have Stephenson DH a lot.

Take a bow, Mr. Wynns. It was a tremendous offensive day for the backup catcher, but he starts only two games a week right now and will be sent back to the minors when Tyler Stephenson returns, so we would not chase this in fantasy leagues of any size.
Reds selected the contract of C Austin Wynns from Triple-A Louisville.
Wynns will be the backup catcher to Luis Trevino while Tyler Stephenson (oblique) opens the season on the injured list.
Reds re-signed C Austin Wynns to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Wynns returns to the fold with Cincinnati as emergency catching depth after being non-tendered back in November. The 34-year-old backstop got into seven contests last year for the Reds and will presumably open next season back at Triple-A Louisville handling their pitching staff.
