Mets signed C Austin Allen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Allen’s tour of the NL East continues after spending last year with the Marlins at Triple-A Jacksonville. The 30-year-old backstop got into five contests for the Athletics during the 2022 campaign. He’s merely emergency catching depth at this stage of his career.

Allen got into just five contests last year for the Athletics and has hit .195/.252/.288 with two homers in 127 plate appearances in the majors since 2019. The 28-year-old backstop will likely open the 2023 season as emergency catching depth for the Marlins at Triple-A Jacksonville.
