Red Sox signed RHP Austin Adams to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Adams, 33, spent the 2024 campaign in the Athletics’ organization where he registered a 3.92 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 53/23 K/BB ratio across 41 1/3 innings at the big league level before elbow tightness ended his season prematurely in mid-August. As long as he’s healthy, Adams should function as a nice depth addition for the Red Sox’ bullpen.
Athletics sent RHP Austin Adams and INF Armando Alvarez outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Adams, 33, had a 3.92 ERA in 41 1/3 innings for the A’s before missing the final quarter of the season with elbow tightness. He’ll probably have to settle for a minor league deal this winter.
Athletics placed RHP Austin Adams on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 14, with right elbow tightness.
As expected, Adams is hitting the shelf, and the Athletics have activated Dany Jiménez off the 15-day injured list to take his spot on the roster. If everything goes well, Adams could return to the Oakland bullpen before the end of the season.
Athletics’ manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Austin Adams will be placed on the injured list on Sunday with tightness in his elbow.
Adams wasn’t used during Saturday’s game, so it’s unclear when exactly the injury issue cropped up for the 33-year-old hurler. Expect the A’s to make a corresponding move to add a fresh arm to their bullpen prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Giants.
