Pirates re-signed C Andrew Susac to a minor league contract.
Susac was outrighted off the Pirates' 40-man roster at the conclusion of the season, but he'll remain in the fold to begin the spring. The 30-year-old is a .219/.286/.371 hitter in 114 games (304 plate appearances) at the major league level and represents depth at this stage of his career.
Pirates sent C Andrew Susac outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Susac was added to the Pirates' active roster on the final day of the regular season. The 30-year-old catcher is a career .219/.286/.371 hitter in 114 games (304 plate appearances) at the major league level.
Pirates purchased the contract of C Andrew Susac from their alternate training site.
It took until the final day of the season, but Susac will get a little time in the majors in 2020. He will give the Pirates another catcher with Jacob Stallings (concussion) going down.
Susac agreed to a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
This is one of the better landing spots for Susac, as the Pirates severely lack quality catching depth in the upper levels. Jacob Stallings and Luke Maile project to break camp on the 26-man roster, so Susac could possibly win a big-league job with a good spring training. He enters his age-30 season with a career .221/.283/.373 slash line and 0.3 fWAR in 300 MLB plate appearances with three organizations. Susac has also missed significant time in several seasons due to injuries.
