Rays signed OF Andrew Stevenson to a minor league contract.
Stevenson heads to Triple-A Durham to help bolster Tampa Bay’s injury-depleted outfield depth. The 30-year-old outfielder last appeared in the majors back in 2023 when he got into 25 games for the Twins. He’s merely extra organizational depth at this stage of his career.
Andrew Stevenson is signing with the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
The 29-year-old Stevenson had an excellent season with the Twins’ Triple-A club, hitting .317/.394/.522 with 16 homers and 44 steals, but no one was interested in carrying him on the 40-man when he was put on waivers a couple of months ago. In light of that, Japan sure seems like his best option right now. He might reemerge in the majors in a year or two.
Twins sent OF Andrew Stevenson outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
The 20-year-old Stevenson was one of the International League’s best players this year, hitting .317/.394/.522 with 16 homers and 44 steals in 106 games before being called up for the month of September. He wound up hitting .189/.250/.216 in 40 plate appearances for the Twins. It’s quite possible he’d be a fine reserve outfielder, but no team wanted to commit a 40-man roster spot to him. He’ll become a free agent.
Twins selected the contract of OF Andrew Stevenson from Triple-A St. Paul.
The 29-year-old outfielder earned the opportunity by slashing .317/.394/.522 with 16 homers, 57 RBI and 44 stolen bases in 470 plate appearances at Triple-A St. Paul. He could wind up being an interesting mixed league option if he could work his way into regular at-bats.
