Red Sox hired Andrew Bailey as pitching coach.
Bailey takes over as Red Sox manager Alex Cora’s new pitching coach after Dave Bush, who held the position for the past three years, was fired last month at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. He’s one of the first significant hires for new president of baseball operations Craig Breslow, who played a pivotal role in the Cubs’ pitching plans the last few years. The 39-year-old former big leaguer, who spent two seasons as a pitcher in Boston from 2012-2013, has served as the Giants’ pitching coach for the last three seasons.

Interesting. It sounds like Bailey will have his pick of pitching coach jobs, with the Red Sox among the clubs believed to be interested, but this is something different and could put him on a path to being a manager someday. The former closer has spent the last four season as the Giants’ pitching coach, and the team would like to keep him, but he’s not currently under contract.
Bailey (shoulder) announced his retirement from playing professional baseball Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
A recurring shoulder issue kept Bailey from being active for much of the 2017 season, as he appeared in just four games (4.0 innings) with the Angels. While his playing career has come to an end, Bailey will remain active in the sport as he's joining the Angels' coaching staff. Bailey will end his eight-season career with a 3.12 ERA and 1.10 WHIP that he built over 265 games (274.1 innings).
Bailey (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Thursday.
The Angels needed to clear a roster spot after acquiring Brandon Phillips and did so by transferring Bailey over to the 60-day DL. Bailey, who was ruled out for the season Tuesday, battled shoulder issues throughout the 2017 season and only threw four innings in the majors.
