Brewers released INF Andres Blanco.
Blanco was among 30 players released by the Brewers so far, at least from what Jim Goulart of Brewerfan.net was able to compile from MiLB.com. The 36-year-old joined the Brewers on a minor league deal back in January after playing with the Braves Triple-A affiliate last year. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2017.
Blanco signed with the Brewers as a non-roster invitee Friday.
The veteran has spent parts of 10 seasons in the big leagues, though he hasn't appeared at the highest level since 2017. With a career .256/.310/.378 slash line, he's unlikely to be more than a bench option if he finds his way onto the big-league roster.
Blanco was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Blanco's strong spring -- during which he went 6-for-14 (.429) with a homer and six RBI -- wasn't enough to earn him a spot on the Braves' Opening Day roster. The veteran infielder will serve as organizational depth.
Blanco signed a minor-league contract which includes an invitation to spring training with the Braves on Friday, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.
Blanco can fill in all around the infield, but there's not much left in the 34-year-old's bat, which was rarely an asset even when he was younger. He owns a career .256/.310/.378 slash line in parts of 10 big-league seasons and was last seen at the major-league level hitting .192/.257/.292 in 144 plate appearances for the Phillies back in 2017. It would be a surprise to see the veteran win an Opening Day roster spot and an even bigger surprise to see him make a significant impact.
